Where does strategic value sit inside the platform?

Communications and electronic subsystems can carry important functionality even when they are less visible than the platform that houses them. The route from research to usable hardware includes design, prototyping, testing, qualification and integration. Each stage answers a different question. A funded project establishes development activity; it does not establish a deployed product or a validated performance claim.

Where the leverage sits

A supplier can build a durable position through a specialised interface, a qualified component or an integration capability that multiple customers need. The constraint is acceptance into a wider architecture. Technical merit alone may not overcome procurement conditions, programme timing, export restrictions or customer-specific qualification requirements.

Evidence to watch

Follow named development roles, demonstrators, test results, customer qualification and production orders. Separate consortium participation from control of intellectual property and from ownership of the final product.
